Cristiano Ronaldo was on target with another Champions League goal as Real Madrid brushed aside Dutch side Ajax by four goals to one on a relaxed evening for the hosts.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 13th minute to get his 6th goal in this season's competition. Benzema did well to control a lofted ball and picked Ronaldo out in the centre who easily knocked the ball past the defenders on the goal line.

Callejon doubled Madrid's lead in the 28th minute with a neat finished and Kaka made it three with a wonderful strike from range in the 49th minute.

Ajax got a consolation goal in the 59th minute from Boerrigter who did well to turn in Casillas' punch, but Callejon got his second in the 84th minute with a header to wrap up a comfortable evening of football for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid advance to the knockout stages but only as runners up after Borussia Dortmund beat Manchester City tonight.

Cristiano Ronaldo relished his return to Manchester as Real Madrid earned a 1-1 draw with Manchester City to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Real Madrid were ahead on the 10 minute mark through in-form marksman Karim Benzema. Angel di Maria delivered a sumptuous pass from wide and Benzema's positioning was perfect to strike at the far post.

Cristiano Ronaldo caused Vincent Kompany all kinds of problems on the evening but could not get his name on the score sheet.

Manchester City got a late equaliser in the 73rd minute when Sergio Aguero converted a spot-kick after Arbeloa's foul in the area which resulted in a second booking and dismissal for the Real defender.

City could not find a winning goal, the draw condemning them to an early Champions League exit. Real's point, combined with the fact that Borussia Dortmund won in Amsterdam, means they progress to the knockout phase of the competition.
